For McKenna Mushrooms, keeping all growing rooms at precise temperatures and moisture levels was crucial. Kieran was looking for reliable clean energy solutions that would keep the farm productive at a lower running cost.
The objective was to:
- Save on their energy bills
- Save on their water bills
- Save on the running costs of this busy farm
- Reduce their carbon footprint
Mushrooms are one of the most energy-reliant crops to produce. They are grown indoors in a carefully controlled 60° high-humidity environment where they double in size every 24 hours.
M&C Hybrid Energy Ltd started working in the mushroom farm in 2011.
The works commenced with upgrading all pipe work and insulation.
In 2012 we installed a new deep well pump system to reduce water bills.
A wood pellet boiler was installed to reduce oil bills in 2013.
In 2015 50kw Solar PV System was installed to offset against electric bills.
We installed an automatic sprinkler system in 2019.
Water Bills reduced 40%
Heating Bills reduced
Electricity Bills reduced
“This project has rolled out for a number of years now. I am delighted to of worked alongside Kieran on this. Kieran is very committed to setting a high standard as an energy efficient farm. It was always priority to look at future savings along with reducing carbon footprint. All the measures taken at McKenna Mushroom Farm have helped to reduce heating bills, reduce electricity bills and reduce water bills.”
