Meet The Team

Micheal Smith

Managing Director

Micheal is a plumber by trade and has 25 years experience working in both Ireland and in the US.  When he moved home in 2006, he diversified to renewables, recognising the growing need for a concerted effort from Ireland’s energy professionals to endorse and provide green solutions.  He spent three years researching new technologies across Europe and launched M&C Hybrid Energy in 2009.

Micheal is the Managing Director of the company.  He is a qualified biomass pellet boiler, Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Wood Pellet Stove and Heat Pump Installer.

In his spare time Micheal likes to drive his classic Ford Capri to vintage car shows.

Carmel Smith

Operations Director and Co-Founder

A highly motivated, positive and enthusiastic individual and an excellent team player. Always willing to give it my all and with me there are no half measures. Hard work and perseverance to exceed expectations.

Carmel joined the business in 2009 and her role is largely operational, in the office overseeing the delegation of a project, managing a project’s budget, overseeing company finance and marketing and ensuring overall customer satisfaction.

Carmel participates in horse show jumping events in her spare times and at weekends.

Daniel Connolly

Sales Representative

Daniel joined our team in 2022 as our renewable energy sales representative. 

Daniel has a wealth of experience in sales and construction, with a huge interest in solar energy and renewable heating. Daniel has many goals to help bring sustainability to communities across Ireland, from homes and businesses to farms and more. 

When not fighting climate change at work, you will find Daniel cycling and travelling! 

Dan Connolly

Rachel Smith

Office Administrator

Rachel joined our team in early 2022 as the Office Administrator, working alongside Carmel.

As the company has expanded the office administration section has become more demanding and Rachel has the skills and ability to help make all administration duties run smoothly and kept up to date. 

In her spare time Rachel loves to travel and horse riding.

John Fitzpatrick

Plumbing Engineer

John joined Hybrid Energy Group in 2020 with an extensive background in plumbing, having worked in America for many years, as well as here in Ireland.

His experience in the plumbing and heating sector has been mainly focused on the domestic and commercial markets. John has a keen interest in the renewable energy industry, and will continue to develop his skills with us in the future.

Outside of work you will find John keeping active by mountain biking in his spare time.


Admin & Coordination Assistant

Sophie is passionate about renewable energy and sustainability and is excited to be a part of one of Ireland’s leading green, renewable energy solution providers and to play her role in creating a better tomorrow for our next generation.

Sophie who has recently joined our team in late 2020 has come aboard to assist in the administration aspect of our business and works alongside Carmel.

In her spare time Sophie runs ‘shop local’ and ‘support local business’ initiatives as well as volunteering to help local communities and not for profit organisations withstand these uncertain times.

Jack McQuaid

Plumbing Apprentice

Jack is our newest recruit, starting his plumbing apprentice with us in September 2021. 

Jack has a keen interest in renewable energy, and we are excited to help develop his skills with technologies such as heat pumps, mechanical ventilation and solar PV systems. 

When not working, he can be found playing football or fishing. 

Luke McBreen

Maintenance Technician
Luke recently joined the team in October 2021.
With a vast amount of experience working and maintaining a variety of technologies including heating systems, heat pumps, ventilation and solar PV systems. 
When he is not working, Luke can be found cycling his bike around the county. 

Harris Crowley

Plumbing Apprentice

Harris joined our team just at the beginning of 2023, as one of our newest apprentices. 

Joining a team of two new apprentices, Harris has always wanted to become a plumber, working with new technologies and learning an invaluable trade. 

When he’s not working, Harris can be found watching or playing football, with a love of boxing too. 

Jason Mannering

Plumbing Apprentice

Jason joined our team just at the beginning of 2023, as one of our newest apprentices. 

As part of our new duo of apprentices, Jason is excited to get stuck in learning about renewable energy and gain his full plumbing qualifications.

Jason has a love for the great outdoors, including cycling, fishing and of course football too.
